David and Laura on Vengeance Demons

The initial "Mission Statement," if you will, for this blog was to put forth an idea of what it was like to hang out with Laura and David. In that spirit, and much against my co-blogger's wishes (I'm sure), I'm going to start posting excerpts from some of our nerdier and more amusing conversations with more frequency--cause, come on, who wouldn't want to read more gems like this classic?

With that said, here's the conversation that inspired my revamped desire to post these things:

L: “Selfless” Anya’s make-up is much scarier than Anya’s make-up in “The Wish”
D: Really?
D: I tend to think the other way around
D: But maybe because you only see her for a second in “The Wish”
L: Haha
L: yeah
L: It just seems much more severe to me in “Selfless”
D: This is a conversation no one should ever have
L: I know
L: and I think we should post it
D: No
L: please?
D: No
L: awwwww
D: That's a dealbreaker, lady
L: Hahahah
L: Maybe I should start a Tumblr of David and Laura convos that you never find out about
D: I mean you could, but it would only compete with the website we already have
L: Hahaha
D: There's really not that large a market for fans of us
D: Pretty much just people who know us, like gay marriage and the Muppets, or hate Danny Gokey

Sorry David.

New Buffy Comic = Awesomeness!

The New Buffy Season 8 Comic book came out today, and marks the beginning of an Arc featuring the ill fated animated series. I have yet to read the actual issue, so I can't say if it's any good, but I'm super pumped!!

FOTC NYC TOUR

On Friday Evening, David and I decided to take a "Flight of the Conchords tour." This entailed us going to the fake New Zealand Consulate, Dave's Pawn Shop, and Bret and Jemaine's Apt. This was an interesting trip, as neither of us had spent much time in China town, which is actually really cool and fun at night. Here are some pictures!!! (note: it was kinda dark and foggy, so excuse the pic quality).

Quake III: Simpsons Edition

This Quake III map, which recreates the interior of The Simpsons' house and Springfield is brilliant. Favorite bits: 1) the Spider-pig tracks on the ceiling in the living room and 2) the clip of the game in action with Green Day's version of the theme song playing in which the words "you fragged mr. burns" appear. Heh. Well played, nerds.

Confessions of a Buffy Fanatic - Laura Edition

When David and I moved to NYC in the fall of 2006, we didn't know very many people and we didn't have a ton of extra money to spend on New York nightlife, so we spent many nights, (and full days) watching DVD Buffy marathons. This was step one in David's master plan to make me a total nerd. Even after a few rough episodes in the first season, I fell in love with Buffy, and I always enjoyed spending time with the Scoobies in Sunnydale.

One of my first nerdy Buffy moments came in February of that year. While still in NYC, we had the opportunity to attend the Buffy sing along at the IFC center. The Buffy sing along is a midnight showing of the Buffy musical episode, "Once More with Feeling," complete with live performers. Well, you really don't know what the word "Nerd" means until you've attended one of these things. Seriously, it was like sitting at the world's biggest nerd table in the high school cafeteria, I felt uncomfortably cool. Anyway, despite the fellow Buffy fans, it was a wonderful time for both David, and me (and the overly-confident morbidly obese woman playing Tara).

Apparently, I chose a very opportune time to start watching Buffy, because shortly after we finished the seventh season, the season 8 comic books premiered. Now, I had been into a comic book store with David, but I had never in my life read one, until the first Issue of Buffy Season 8 came out. Now I go over to the comic book store every month to get my Buffy and Angel comics, and as seen in the previous post about my room, my modest collection is growing. My room post also revealed my affinity for toys, making my acquisition of a few Buffy action figures quite natural. David and I have given Buffy action figures to each other as birthday gifts, and I'm sure it will happen again. Since I'm fairly new to the cult of Buffy, my nerd stories are limited, but this is a pretty good start…

Confessions of a Buffy Fanatic - David Edition

*WARNING* The following post is shamefully nerdy.

There are far, far too many embarrassing things I could say about my Buffy obsession to list them all but here are a choice few:

1) I can name all 144 episodes of Buffy and 110 episodes of Angel in order by episode title and writer. Also, I didn't have to look up how many episodes of Buffy and Angel there were. Oh and I can identify any of those writers by picture.

2) I can identify just about any episode by watching 1 or 2 seconds of it. It doesn't matter what it is. I google image searched "buffy giles" and got the image above. The top three frames are from the episode "The Gift" and the bottom three are from "Grave." They're the fifth and sixth season finales. Yeah.

3) When Laura and I started watching Buffy and Angel on DVD I wanted to watch them in seasons instead of flipping back and forth, as they occur concurrently, so I mapped out when the crossovers were and made a special order to keep continuity while watching as many in a row from each series as possible. I didn't have to look up ANYTHING to do this. *sigh*

4) When I was in the 8th grade I carved my own stake out of a limb from the backyard and would occasionally pretend to fight vampires in my bedroom with it.

5) I really want pretty much all of these replicas, but I REALLY want the full size Slayer's scythe. And yes it's like $300 depending on where you look for it. Also I'm now 25 and I would totally run around the apartment with it the first few weeks pretending to fight vampires with it.

6) I once entered into an online Buffy trivia competition and I didn't miss a single question... which meant when I was confronted by someone equally as nerdy as me we went through 120 emergency tiebreaker questions until I finally won.

7) I used to own AND wear a Claddagh Ring... in public. Solely because Buffy and Angel had them. Though I didn't really support Buffy/Angel as a couple until I was an adult because of my MAD crush on Xander. (I still think Buffy should end up with Xander.)

8) Because I'm marrying a fellow Buffy nerd we have a total of 3 copies of every episode of Buffy, two individual season sets AND the Complete Series box set, which is pretty and comes with an extra disc of Joss Whedon talking in great detail to people like me who would actually listen to something like that.

Verbal Ticks - WTF Mate

Among the many awkward ticks that Laura and I share is the use of abbreviations in regular conversation. Sometimes it's in the form of abbreviated swear words, this started with her and somehow managed to seep into my brain. "What the F?" "GD!" or just the good old fashioned "F!" Though sometimes it involves the use of online abbreviation slang in everyday conversation..."WTF?!?" And has gotten to the point where I occasionally spell out abbreviations in IM chats "Oh me gee." I'm not sure when all of this started but I like to imagine that it has to do with this viral video from some time ago, which is certainly the origin of our friend Rebecca's most used abbreviated phrase "WTF mate?!?"

Language NSFW, Bee tee double you.
