Guinea Saurus Rex

This weeks South Park, "Pandemic 2: The Startling," was amazing and when I watch the following clip from it I have but two thoughts: 1) Mmm. Outback sounds so good right now and 2) Guinea Saurus Rex is totally the it costume for this Halloween. You bitches better get started on that last minute stitching... making a guinea pig inside a dinosaur isn't easy.

Top 9 Fictional Character's Halloween Costumes

Since it's Halloweek and pretty much everyone is scrambling for an amazing, cheap last minute costume, I thought I'd take a look at some of my favorite tv and film character's Halloween costumes.

9. Willow Rosenberg as Ghost / Ghost of a Hooker
When Willow dresses up like a slut to get Xander's attention, she chickens out at the last moment putting a ghost sheet on top of it, a sheet which causes her to actually become a ghost (albeit one dressed in her outfit underneath). Prompting Giles, when told that her costume had turned her into a real ghost, to ask "The ghost of what exactly?"

8. Liz Lemon & Kenneth as Harry Potter and Austin Powers
I love that they're dancing to "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" in this pic. Also, Kenneth lets out a "Happy Halloween, baby!"

The other seven after the jump!

7. Karen Smith as... a Mouse, duh!

6. Willow & Oz as Joan of Arc and her pal God
Willow decided to be Joan of Arc because they have so much in common. They were both burned at the stake (episode: "Gingerbread") and they both have a close, personal relationship with God.  They also both turned out to be lesbians and not that Jewish. Wait, what?

5. Kyle Broflovski as Chewbacca
Mostly I love this because it's not really a costume so much as Kyle with a Chewbacca face... and that makes me laugh. Heh.

3. Jim as Three Hole Punch Jim
He's also available in Regular Jim.

3. Strong Bad as Beetlejuice
Nothing I can say is going to top the awesomeness of that image.

2. Bart Simpson as Alex DeLarge
This one is completely biased. I have a really creepy love for A Clockwork Orange in general and Alex in particular. "Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well. To what do I owe the extreme pleasure of this surprising visit?"

1. Ross Gellar as Spudnik
You're not laughing... you don't get it? Like Sputnik but a potato. See. It's funny. Sweet Jesus I love puns, the nerdier the better.

Really, Asia? South Park Yaoi Edition

Okay it may sound a bit racist or continentist if you will... but the entirety of Asia confuses me, sometimes wonderfully. Sometimes less so.

Exhibit A: Slashy fanfic cartoons that pair Kyle Broflovski with Stan and Cartman, amongst others, set to an emo soundtrack. I am all about some dude on dude action but I don't think I have ever once thought to myself, "This episode of South Park would really be improved if Kyle had killer abs and he started holding hands and snuggling with Cartman," but clearly someone else did.

The Return of South Park

South Park is back tonight at 10pm with it's 175th episode: The China Probrem (engrish spelling is intentional) "with the rest of the American people haunted by the memory of a recent tragic event, only Butters will stand with Cartman as he confronts the Chinese."

Since there isn't a long trailer for the episode up yet... here's one of my favorites moments from earlier this season, the negotiation scene from "Canada on Strike."

Things I'm Obsessed With: Gratuitous Pop Culture References

There are few things I find as satisfying as watching a TV show or a movie reference something obscure and being in on the joke. Unsurprisingly, it's even more satisfying to to have a TV show or movie reference 50 things in rapid succession and still get it all. Being adept at this is one of the only two things you get out of having degrees in Film Studies, the other is being constantly asked if you want to make movies. It's important to note that this obsession doesn't extend to Family Guy, which makes more references than any other show ever and still blows.

Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny
A viral video classic from Lemon Demon, Ultimate Showdown features at least 60 famous people, real and imagined, from the 80s and 90s in an apocalyptic brawl.

More examples after the jump!

Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire (Illustrated)
I actually thought about making one of these until I found out it already existed. Thanks internet!

Weezer - Pork and Beans
I'm a huge Weezer fan and the kind of geek who writes about viral videos several times a day so when this video came out, I was sure it was made just for me. If you'd like to see the references in this one deconstructed, there's a helpful video HERE.

South Park - The Evil of Imaginationland
This three part episode is an orgy of pop culture references, but I have to say the imaginary villains are my favorite. From Jason to the Cavity Creeps to the Satan Worshiping Woodland Critters.
