Pop Cultured's Best Picture of 2008

Being disappointed with the Academy Award nominees this year and having read about their INSANE nomination process in this Variety article, we've decided that Pop Cultured should have it's own Best Picture of 2008 vote. So to start we need some nominees.

Here's what you've got to do. Write down any five films released theatrically between Jan 1 and Dec 31 2008 in order of preference with #1 being your favorite and send it to popculturedblog@gmail.com. We will be accepting nominees through Feb 3, at which point we will tabulate the results using that wacky Academy rubric.

So if you think Beverly Hills Chihuahua was painfully underrated step up and make your voice heard.

If you're having trouble remembering films from 2008, a list of most theatrically released films can be found on Wikipedia HERE.

Feel free to make a case for your favorites in the comments!

I've seen painfully few movies this year but I have to say that I loved, loved, loved The Wrestler and I don't think it's even a best picture nominee which is a friggin joke!

Also, why do all Bruce Springsteen songs nowadays seem especially designed to make me blubber like a baby?

Comic book films get no respect! The Dark Knight is a classic, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk were much better than they had any right to be...where's the love?!

But honestly, it's The Wrestler. It was The Wrestler before I even knew The Wrestler was going to exist.
